ROBIN BAIRD of Balgreddan Farm, Kirckcudbright works in partnership with his dad, Robert on their 520-acre farm, whilst also jointly running Dumfries and Galloway What’s Going On (DGWGO) website and Facebook page.

Balgreddan provides cattle B&B and Robin is the third-generation of the family to farm there and is a long-time customer of Gordons, relying on our service and expertise for more than 80 years.

“We’ve been buying tractors and machinery from Gordons for many years and they’ve always been great to deal with. I like that I can speak directly with the owners and the local service is second to none.”

Currently, Robin runs a 2024 CLAAS ARION 450 and a 2021 CLAAS ATOS 340, adding to a history of five CLAAS tractors, including a CLAAS ARION 610, CLAAS ARION 620 and a CLAAS AXOS 340. Reliability has been a key factor in sticking with the brand.

“All the CLAAS tractors we’ve had have served us very well over the years. I had my CLAAS ARION 620 for 10 years and all it had was the usual running repairs. When we needed a change, we worked with Davy Lamont to go for the four-cylinder CLAAS ARION 450. It’s been a great choice, with excellent visibility and a comfortable panoramic cab.”

Beyond the quality of the machines, it’s the service from Gordons that keeps Robin coming back.

“If we ever need anything looked at, the workshop sorts it out in no time. Over the winter, we had an issue and Paddy from Gordons, Castle Douglas was here within 30 minutes. Problem solved!”

From daily winter feeding and slurry spreading to summer grassland management, Robin puts his tractors through their paces and has no complaints.

“The CLAAS ARION 450 may be a smaller tractor but it’s been brilliant – and that’s thanks to Davy’s help in making sure we got exactly what we needed.”
